- Batch Geolocate can now place photos that have no GPS at all. Older cameras recorded no coordinates, phones with location switched off record none, and scanned prints never had any. A new option, AI locate photos without GPS, works those out with you rather than guessing on its own. It begins by showing the AI a small sample of the album and asking one question — which countries are these photos from? You correct that list in a window of its own, and from then on every photo gets at least its country, written straight away.
The photos are then grouped by folder and by the time they were taken, and each group's proposed place appears in a review window with the photos beside it: accept it with Enter, take one of the other suggestions the AI gave, choose from your own saved places and the sights in your offline map data, or write your own. Photos can be ticked and unticked one by one, so you can approve the ones that really were at the landmark and give the rest something else. Rows appear while the AI is still working on later ones, so the first decision is on your screen within seconds, and every acceptance is written into the photos immediately — stopping half-way keeps everything you decided.
Coordinates are written only when the spot is genuinely known, and are marked as estimates; when the AI is not sure, nothing is written at all, because a wrong location is worse than an empty one. It runs on the folders you have marked as your organised library, because your own folder names — 2019 Tenerife → el teide — are what make the answers good. It needs an AI key and costs roughly 1¢ per 10 photos.

- Get location now finds the place as well as the address, and shows you it is working. Used on a single photo — from the full-screen viewer or the right-click menu in Explorer — it filled in country, region, city and area but always left the point of interest empty. It now looks for one among your own saved places and your offline map data, filling it in when the answer is already on your computer and leaving any place name you wrote yourself alone when it is not. While it runs, and while an AI analysis runs, the viewer says what it is doing and how long it has been going, over the photo where you cannot miss it; before, the message vanished after three seconds and the rest of a run — up to two minutes — looked like nothing was happening.
- The panel in the full-screen viewer steps out of the way. Leave the mouse still for three seconds and it slides off to the left, giving the photo the whole window; move the mouse and it comes back. It stays put while you are typing in a field, while the pointer is on it, and while you have edits you have not saved.
- You can now tell the AI what to look for, and it asks before replacing anything. Batch PhotoBrowser has an Ask AI to list beside every place analysis can be started. Besides the general Describe the photo there are prompts for art and for buildings — a short form giving the title, the artist or architect and the year as keywords, and a longer form that also writes a paragraph about the work — and one that identifies animals and plants with the scientific name alongside the common one. The one you use most can be made the default in Settings. Every prompt is now told to say when it does not recognise something instead of guessing, and to report how sure it is. A photo that already carries a description is no longer overwritten silently: the photo, the text it has and the text the AI wrote are put side by side and you choose which to keep, once or for the whole batch. The two longer prompts write about three times as much and cost about three times as much per photo, and the panel says so before you start.
- The Background Processor's speed setting now actually changes the speed. Full speed used to mean only “do not wait for the computer to be idle” — it still worked one photo at a time, exactly like the gentlest setting, so choosing it appeared to do nothing. There are now four settings. Only when the computer is free is still the default and still steps aside the moment you touch the machine; Light keeps working gently while you use the computer; Fast takes about half the computer; Full speed takes all of it. On a 24-core computer, preparing 400 photos took 12.7 seconds at the default setting and 2.2 seconds at full speed — for a library of ninety thousand photos, the difference between about an hour of first-time preparation and under ten minutes. Full speed slows everything else down while it runs, so you are asked to confirm it once. Nothing about safety changed: your photos are protected by exactly the same file locking and the same save-as-you-go behaviour at every speed.

- Prepared thumbnails are now actually used. The Background Processor and Batch MetadataSync prepared them at a size the photo browser never asked for, so opening a large folder still meant watching grey tiles for minutes while every picture was rebuilt — the preparation work changed nothing. All the programs now agree on one prepared size, and a folder the processor has been through shows its pictures the moment it opens.
- Browsing photos one at a time no longer stalls. Moving through images with the arrow keys could stop responding for ten or twenty seconds with nothing on screen reacting, because the viewer's check on each photo ended up queued behind the background work keeping the library up to date. That check no longer waits at all, and background work gives way the moment you do something: on the author's library a check that had been taking up to fourteen seconds is now immediate. A stray blue tint that could settle over the picture after clicking near the panel is gone too — that was text being selected by accident.
- Some photos were given the wrong country. A photo records its coordinates as plain numbers and stores the compass direction — north or south, east or west — separately. A few cameras and phone apps leave that direction out, and Batch PhotoTools used to assume north and east, which put anything west of Greenwich or south of the equator in the wrong place: photos from the Costa del Sol in Spain were tagged as Algeria. Batch Geolocate now works the direction out from your other photos taken around the same time, and says so in the log instead of guessing when it cannot tell. Such photos no longer enter the catalogue with a guessed position either, so one guess can no longer vouch for the rest of the same trip. Photos that already record the direction — the great majority — are unaffected.
- Photos with ä, ö or any other non-English letter in their name are catalogued again. The Background Processor read them successfully and then threw the answer away, so the same photos were read on every pass, saved nothing and used up the time meant for the rest of your library — 3 500 photos on the author's own library, with newly added photos queued behind them never reached. They are picked up normally now, with nothing for you to do.
- The Background Processor no longer looks stuck at “0”. The progress bar counted thumbnails successfully made rather than photos gone through, so a stretch of damaged or unreadable photos left it sitting at zero for minutes. It now shows how far through it is, says how many photos it could not read, stops re-trying those for the rest of the session, and says plainly when it is waiting because you are using the computer.
- The thumbnail cache no longer grows without limit, and gives space back. Scrolling and resizing quietly produced hundreds of near-identical thumbnails of each photo — on one library, four hundred thousand records for sixty-three thousand photos. Sizes now round to a short list of steps, and you will not see the difference on screen. Thumbnails left behind when you move photos into your sorted albums are deleted properly, and an occasional sweep clears anything already stranded and reports how much it freed; if it cannot confirm what a file belongs to, it leaves it.
- Deleted duplicates disappear from the Duplicates window immediately. The window could go on showing a deleted file with the note file no longer on disk, because the catalogue sometimes remembers one photo under two spellings of the same folder path. Deleting a copy now clears every record of that file, and a file that is gone from the disk no longer counts as a copy at all — which closes a more serious corner case where a leftover record could be chosen as the “best copy” to keep while every real copy was offered for deletion.
- Repairing a photo keeps its information. Batch PhotoFixer now copies the GPS position, dates, keywords and every other detail from the damaged original into the repaired file before replacing it — some repair methods rebuild the picture from scratch and used to lose all of it. Two damaged photos with the same file name can no longer get each other's repair results, and Save copy never overwrites a copy you saved earlier.
- Face tag sync now actually writes Microsoft and ACDSee face regions. It never did — and worse, a sync could erase the face regions already in the photo. It also keeps faces that were detected but not yet named, and no longer adds the same person's name again on every run.
- Metadata sync shows what it would change before writing anything. Batch MetadataSync now lists every planned change — file, field, current value, new value — with the master direction spelled out in plain words, and writes only after you approve. Cancel leaves every file untouched.
- Editing in the full-screen viewer no longer loses fields it did not touch. Saving used to clear the State/Province field of every photo it saved, and keywords of more than one word (“Old Town”) were split into pieces. Both survive now, and the keyword box uses commas between keywords.
- Quick edits on a photo the browser was still loading are safe. Giving stars, painting keywords or marking a photo private before its details had been read could blank those details — and could make a private photo visible again. Each edit now touches only what it changed.
- Existing information in your photos is protected harder. If reading a photo's current fields fails, geocoding now skips the photo instead of writing over fields it could not see; the AI's quality verdict never replaces stars you gave; the AI keeps the private keyword when its keywords are accepted; the “Tag country, city and subregion” checkbox now really controls those fields; and a location stored only in XMP is seen — and left alone — just like one stored the usual way.
- Every write is now checked against what the photo actually accepted. If a file is locked or read-only, Batch PhotoBrowser no longer records the edit as done: the failure is counted and shown in the status line. Painting location or keywords over hundreds of photos re-checks any batch that reports trouble and marks exactly which files could not be written.
- Unplugging a drive no longer costs its thumbnails. Cache cleanup used to treat every photo on a disconnected USB drive or network share as deleted, so reconnecting meant rebuilding everything. A missing drive is now left alone, and a photo edited in another program gets a fresh thumbnail instead of the old one forever.
- The AI never gave a poor photo the one star it was supposed to. The analysis judged picture quality and the answer was thrown away before anything read it. It is written now, and still only when you have not rated the photo yourself.
- Video thumbnails recover after installing a codec. A video whose thumbnail came out as a grey placeholder — a missing HEVC codec, for example — is retried automatically, and a real frame replaces the placeholder instead of the placeholder being kept forever.
- The map's zoom buttons stayed on top of everything. With the map panel open, its + and − buttons showed through menus, dialogs and the tool panels instead of behind them. They stay inside the map now.
- The Amazon Photos cloud mark no longer covers the stars. On gallery cards in Batch PhotoBrowser the cloud now sits below the star rating, so both stay visible.
- The Ask AI to list in the full-screen viewer is readable again. It showed as a white box with white text; the list is now dark like the panel around it.

- Photos on a map. View → Map panel in Batch PhotoBrowser opens a map above the gallery and places every photo that has coordinates on it — numbered clusters zoomed out, the photos themselves as you zoom in. The gallery underneath shows exactly the photos inside the map's current view, so panning and zooming is how you choose what to work on, and sorting, grouping, the painters, ratings and full-screen viewing all keep working on that selection. The count at the bottom says how many photos have no location at all and how many could not be read. Photos you have marked private stay off the map while they are hidden, and the map itself works with no internet connection.
- The Background Processor prepares your library on its own. It can start with Windows and lives in the notification area beside the clock; closing its window leaves it working, and Exit program stops it. Its window is a board of every job — photo details, thumbnails, duplicates, place names, the damage check, database upkeep — each with its own progress bar. A speed control gives it more power while you watch, lasting only until you close the window. In Settings → Background processing you set whether it starts at sign-in (never, always, or only while the suite is open), how many processor cores it may use and when it should step aside; the installer offers the same autostart choice, unticked.
- Your saved places show the area they cover. The Custom POI Manager draws the distance photos are really matched from, which is wider than the radius you type: 25 m saved means photos up to 250 m away. Overlapping places are highlighted and counted, since a photo in the overlap goes to the nearer one.
- A setup window the first time you start Batch Geolocate. Four steps for the things that decide how much the suite can do for your photos: your home country, the offline map data for it, the language the AI writes in, and an AI provider and key. It recommends OpenRouter and links to where a key is made, but finishes happily without one — everything except AI analysis works with no key. Reopen it any time from File → Initial setup.

- One Settings window for the whole suite. File → Settings in every program opens the same window, organised by subject — General, Library, Private images, Location, Point of Interest, AI connection, Image analysis, Metadata sync, Sharing & streaming, Background processing, Database — and each page explains what that part of the software does. Every setting shows the value it ships with and its unit, and nothing asks you to know a code: home country and both place-name languages are dropdowns. Your image sources, Move to Destination targets, offline map data and Amazon Photos sign-in are all edited here now. Changes save themselves, and a value outside its range is refused with the reason. (Move to Destination patterns are written
<year> <country>.) - Batch Geolocate tells you what it is waiting for. When a run is held up, the status bar names the reason — reading a large group of photos, scanning a folder, waiting for the map service — and counts the seconds, or counts down when the length is known.
- Pick a place and send the photos to AI in one go. Queue for AI is now a checkbox: tick it and press OK, Save or Skip, and all three carry it.
- The Choose POI window has a status bar that reports searches, translations and downloads, and says whether an empty result means an empty area or a server that did not answer. A Download region button appears when there is no offline map data nearby.
- The Choose POI window shows whether the photo has already been described, with its existing description and keywords.
- Emptying the AI analysis list moved to File → Clear analysis list in Batch Geolocate and Tools → Analysis list… in Batch PhotoBrowser.
Fixed
- Points of interest are found again, everywhere. The OpenStreetMap services began turning away requests that do not identify the program behind them, so every lookup came back empty — indistinguishable from an area with no places in it.
- Letters outside the Western European alphabet are written correctly — Gdańsk, Łódź, Kyïv, Greek and Cyrillic, previously stored as Gda?sk. Nothing was lost: your photos carry a second, undamaged copy that the programs now read, so the text appears correctly straight away; to repair the files themselves, run Batch MetadataSync → Sync over your library.
- Coordinates stored as text are understood, so photos from Spain or Britain are no longer placed the same distance east of Greenwich instead of west.
- The full-screen viewer no longer shows the previous photo's details, where Save could write them onto the photo now on screen.
- Photos taken on the prime meridian or the equator have a location again; only a zero reading for both halves counts as no position.
- Nearby searches reach as far east and west as they do north and south. Measured on 32,842 located photos: 135 groups of photos taken side by side were being split in two, and your own saved places were missing from the list at a third of positions.
- A photo is matched to the nearest saved place, not to whichever overlapping one you saved first.
- Home country offers every country and accepts a typed name; missing country codes are filled in from the names already stored, which also restores the Elsewhere language row.
- The offline map data download is offered wherever data is really missing, judged on a neighbourhood's worth of data rather than a single stray entry.
- The Custom POI Manager works with no internet connection; without map imagery the list, search and editing carry on as normal.
- “Get location” no longer reports a failure for places whose names are not written in plain English letters; the location itself was always written correctly.
- The star rating in the Choose POI window is a normal row of gold stars under the preview, and an empty gap above the AI queue counter is gone.

- Settings save themselves — no more Save or Cancel. Across the suite, every settings window now keeps each change the moment you make it: a checkbox or dropdown the instant you change it, a typed field the moment you click away or press Enter. The Save and Cancel buttons are gone; a small note says the changes are saved, and Close (or Esc) just closes the window. Nothing is written half-typed, and an entry that is not yet a valid number simply waits — the previous value stays until you finish.
- Deleting a photo from the full-screen viewer now asks properly. The confirmation shows the photo you are about to delete, its name, and where it is going, instead of the bare grey box Windows used to put on top of your picture. Cancel is the button that has the focus, so pressing Enter without reading it does nothing, and both Esc and a click outside back out. The photo still goes to the Recycle Bin, where you can get it back.

- iPhone photos (.heic) lost their location, description and keywords. The place name, country, description and keywords written to a .heic photo were saved, but the programs could not read them back: the gallery showed the photo with no location, geocoding treated it as untagged and wrote it again on every run, and the AI analysed it again every time — and charged for it — even though its description was already there. HEIC photos now keep and show everything written to them, exactly like JPEGs. Videos gained the same fix for descriptions and keywords. What is already in your photos reappears on its own as you browse — there is nothing to run.
- Details read incorrectly by earlier versions are read again. Fixing how photos are read does not fix what was already remembered about them — the remembered details looked perfectly up to date, so nothing would ever have re-read them. This version notices entries written before the fix and reads those photos again. In practice: the first time you open a folder after upgrading there is a short pause while the details are re-read, once per folder. Thumbnails are kept, so nothing is regenerated, and the Background Processor does most of the work while you are away.
- Damaged .heic photos were never reported. The check that finds corrupt photos in a folder skipped HEIC files entirely, so a half-copied iPhone photo went unnoticed while the same damage in a JPEG was found.
- Perfectly good camera RAW files were listed as damaged. The same folder check also opened .cr2, .nef, .arw and .dng files, which Batch PhotoTools does not read — they never appear in the photo browser, and Batch PhotoFixer repairs JPEGs only. Depending on which camera had written the file, an untouched original was either passed over or added to the Corrupt Image Manager as damaged, where the buttons offer to move it to the Recycle Bin. The folder check now looks at exactly the photo and video formats the browser shows, so your camera originals are left alone.
- Batch Geolocate's Settings window cut off the bottom of its pages without any sign it was doing so. The window opened at a fixed size while its pages had grown taller: on the AI page the Translate model field, the Test connection button and even Save could be out of view, and the General page's last options were clipped the same way. The window now opens at the size its content needs, and if it is made smaller, a scrollbar appears and the mouse wheel scrolls the page. The Location names language choice also says right below it what it affects (place names fetched from OpenStreetMap).
- Some error messages never appeared — the programs stayed silent instead of telling you what went wrong. Four error reports were built in a way that made them fail at the moment they were needed. The most serious was in Batch Geolocate: if its location database was found to be damaged at startup, the window offering to restore it from a backup never opened, so a damaged database went unmentioned. The other three were in Batch MetadataSync, where a failure while building the cache, refreshing thumbnails or cleaning up removed entries left no message in the log. All four now report the problem as intended.
- AI image analysis is about twenty times faster. The AI provider was spending most of every analysis silently "thinking out loud" — roughly a minute per photo — even though the app asked it not to: the request used an off-switch the provider ignores. It now uses the one the provider actually honors. Landmarks are identified just as well (verified on the same photos), but an analysis takes a few seconds instead of a minute, and long analyses no longer risk running out of answer space midway.
- The AI Test connection button failed with Kimi K2.5. The suite's default AI provider only accepts one specific creativity setting, and the test request used another — so pressing Test connection reported an error even with a perfectly good API key. Image analysis itself was not affected.
- The offline map data download was never offered to long-time users. The program is supposed to offer a one-time download of local place data when your photos are from an area it has no data for — but for anyone who had used the program before, the offer silently never appeared, because previously visited locations were remembered without their country. Fixed: the country is now remembered, old entries repair themselves the next time any photo in that country is processed, and even without it the program can now work out the country straight from the photo's coordinates. The download offer and the new download button in the Choose POI window now appear whenever local data is actually missing.
- Zooming in the full-screen viewer is smooth now. The first turn of the wheel used to jump — a large photo leapt to something like twice the intended size in one step — and every turn after that slid the picture sideways, so the spot you were pointing at drifted away from the pointer. Zoom now grows the photo evenly, with a short animation, and whatever is under the mouse pointer stays exactly under it. Double-click zooms to the spot you clicked rather than somewhere near it, and zooming with a trackpad no longer lurches.

- Place names can now follow different languages at home and abroad. Set your home country in Settings → General → Location names and choose two language preferences: one for places in your own country (for example Finnish, then English) and one for everywhere else (for example English, then Finnish). Photos from Rome get "Rome" rather than "Rooma", while places at home keep their Finnish names. Each place's own local name remains the final fallback, and without a home country set, one language preference applies everywhere as before.
- A better default AI model: Google Gemini 2.5 Flash via OpenRouter. New installs use OpenRouter with Gemini 2.5 Flash for image analysis — stronger landmark recognition, about two seconds per photo, and roughly one cent per ten photos (measured on real photo batches). Existing setups keep working unchanged; if you are on the old default, the app offers the switch once and takes a single paste of an OpenRouter key. The Settings model list now also carries Kimi K2.5 via OpenRouter and other ready-made choices.
- Each AI service's key is remembered separately. The API key field in Settings now says which service the key belongs to, and switching between models keeps every key you have entered — trying a different provider no longer overwrites or loses the previous one.
- POI name translation uses a cheaper text model. The Translate button in the Choose POI window can now use a lightweight text model (filled in automatically with the OpenRouter presets) instead of the full vision model — same translations, lower cost.
- Cost and time estimates match reality again. The AI cost warning and every "~1¢ per 5 images, ~60 s per image" note in the apps claimed numbers measured before the analysis got its big speed-up. Everything now says what was actually measured: about one cent per ten images and a couple of seconds per photo, and the time estimate accounts for how many agents run in parallel.
- Your own places now show up in the POI list. Every custom POI you have saved within half a kilometre is listed at the top of the Choose POI window, nearest first and marked with a star — so a place you named yourself is always one click away, not just auto-picked when you happen to stand right on it. The radius is adjustable in Settings → Distances.
- The last two names you typed yourself stay in the list. When you tag a trip with your own place names, the Choose POI window now keeps your two most recently typed names visible in every following dialog (previously only the single last choice), so re-tagging a long series no longer means retyping the same name.
- Choose the language of location names — in preference order. Reverse-geocoded names often came back in the wrong language — in Finland's bilingual areas typically Swedish, even when the place is best known by its Finnish name. Settings > General now has a Location names choice with a preferred language and a fallback (for example Finnish, then English): a place's Finnish name is used when it has one, else its English name, else the place's own local name. The choice applies to reverse geocoding and to the POI suggestion lists, both online and from downloaded offline data. It affects new lookups; places already in the cache keep the names they were fetched with, and re-downloading an offline region re-imports its names in the new language.
- Translate the POI list with one click. The Choose POI window's SELECT POI header now has a small Translate button: it rewrites the suggested names into your chosen location name languages using the AI provider configured in Settings > AI. With a fallback language set, both languages are fetched at once and both names are listed — the official name often exists in one language only, so you can pick the real one. Official place names are localized properly, people's names are never translated, and business names are left as they are — the name you select is what gets written to your images.
- Quitting a run no longer loses your hand-picked AI queue. If you have queued images with Queue for AI in the Choose POI window, pressing Quit Processing now stops the location phase and goes straight to AI analysis for those images — no need to click through the remaining locations first. The Choose POI window also shows a running AI queue: N images counter below the buttons, so you always know how many images are waiting.
- Download offline POI data straight from the Choose POI window. When your photos are from an area with no local POI data — a new country, for example — the window now shows a Download offline POI data for this area button. One click fetches the smallest map region covering the location, shows its progress on the button itself, and fills the suggestion list from the fresh data without interrupting the run. The same download offer now also appears during Quick POI runs, which previously had no way to get local data at all.
- Batch Geolocate now ranks POI suggestions instead of just listing the nearest first. The suggestion list weighs what a place is, not only how close it sits: sights, museums, churches, parks and monuments rise to the top, while kiosks, offices and parking areas sink. Being inside a large place finally counts — a park or castle grounds no longer loses to a shop by the gate just because the park's centre point is far away. Places important enough to have their own Wikipedia entry get a boost, and so do places you have picked before. Named trees, benches, rail lines and other clutter no longer appear at all. Online search results now show their distance too. The list is only ordered better — nothing is chosen for you, and (Save empty POI) is still the default.
- Quick POI now works in towns. It used to fill in a POI only when there was exactly one candidate nearby — which in any built-up area meant never. Now it also accepts a candidate that clearly outranks the runner-up. How clearly is adjustable in Settings → Distances (Quick POI auto-pick), and 0 restores the old cautious behaviour.
- The offline POI database is offered sooner. Previously a download was suggested only when the online services were down. Now, when your photos reach an area with no local data, the download is offered right away — local data is faster, works offline and ranks suggestions better. You are still asked first, once per country, and the offer can be switched off in Settings → POI Database.
- Rate or delete a photo straight from the POI selection window. While choosing a location you can now rate the image shown in the preview (a five-star row in its top-left corner) or, on the same row as Pause processing, move just that one image to the Recycle Bin after a confirmation. Both act only on the image on screen, not the rest of the location group.
- Tagging keeps working while you choose a location. Batch Geolocate now looks up the next locations in the background while you decide the current one, and writes each location you confirm without making you wait — so the next photo appears right after you click OK instead of after a pause. On a large trip this takes a noticeable amount of waiting out of the run.
- “Queue for AI” now shares one list with Batch PhotoBrowser. When you queue photos for AI analysis while tagging locations, they go into the same analysis list Batch PhotoBrowser uses — so the list is one place, shared between the two programs, and it is kept even if you close and reopen. The POI window shows how many photos are waiting and has a Clear queue button, and there is now File → Clear analysis list as well. When a tagging run finishes, the whole list is analysed and then emptied.
- The POI selection window remembers its size. If you enlarge the window while tagging, the next location's window opens at the same size and position instead of snapping back to the default.
- Send a photo to Amazon Photos straight from the full-screen viewer. Right-click the photo you are looking at and choose Send to Amazon Photos. It goes into your usual album, and if Amazon already has that photo it is added to the album without uploading a second copy. The upload runs in the background, so you can carry on looking through your photos while it finishes. The entry stays greyed out until Amazon Photos is switched on and signed in.
- Photo Browser: choose the order photos open in. Settings → General → Sort photos by now decides how the gallery is sorted when the program starts — newest first, by rating, by name, or the folder order it has always used. Changing Sort in the toolbar while you are browsing still works exactly as before and now sticks: every folder you open afterwards keeps that order until you close the program.
- See which of your photos are in Amazon Photos. A new entry under View, Show Images in Amazon Photos, fills the gallery with your own local copies of everything sitting in your Amazon Photos library — from anywhere in your collection, not just the folder you happen to have open. It also tells you two things that are easy to miss: how many photos are up there with no copy on this computer at all, and the handful it could not pin down because several of your files share the same name. Photos are matched by name, so editing a photo here — adding a location, a rating or keywords — does not make it look like it left the cloud. The list is remembered between sessions, so the view opens instantly; reading it fresh from Amazon happens in the background and never blocks the window.
- The cloud mark on a photo now means it really is in Amazon Photos. It used to appear only on photos this program had uploaded itself, so a picture you put there from your phone looked as though it were not backed up at all. It now uses the same Amazon listing as Show Images in Amazon Photos, in any folder you browse. Hover over the mark and it tells you what it knows: a solid mark for a photo sent from here, an outlined one for a photo found in your Amazon library by name, and a faint one with a question mark when several of your photos share that name and it cannot tell which of them is the one up there. The tooltip also gives the date of the listing it is going on, so an old reading cannot quietly mislead you — use View → Show Images in Amazon Photos to bring it up to date. A photo you have uploaded from here always keeps its mark, even if the listing is older than the upload.

Version 1.5.0 shipped a chunk of library code that nothing in it ever ran — it came along for the ride with the new AI "Test connection" button, which only ever needed to send one short message. - Every program now has a Settings window, and it holds what you would expect. Batch PhotoBrowser's Settings used to be greyed out, and the things you could change were scattered across three different menus. They are all in File → Settings now, on six tabs. Batch MetadataSync, Batch PhotoRater and Batch PhotoFixer had no Settings at all and now do.
- File photos into folders built from their own dates and places. Set up a destination once — a root folder and a pattern such as year, country and city — and Batch PhotoBrowser can file any selection into the right folder automatically. Nothing moves until you have seen exactly what will happen: a preview groups the photos by where they are going, tells you which folders already exist and which will be created, and lets you change your mind. You can drop a whole group out of the move, or copy one group's folder and paste it onto another so two batches land in the same place. Photos with too little information to file — usually videos, which carry no location — are listed separately and stay put unless you give them a folder.
- Right-click any photo in the gallery. Copy its path, folder or file name, show it in Explorer, open it in your usual photo app, send it somewhere, move it to another folder, or put it in the Recycle Bin. Right-clicking a photo that is part of a selection acts on the whole selection.
- The gallery stops moving under you. A rating or edit you make while viewing a photo now appears on its card immediately, in place. Photos you delete or move stay as greyed-out cards rather than vanishing and reshuffling everything below them, so you can keep working steadily down a page. View → Refresh (or F5) re-reads the folder when you are ready, keeps your place, and tells you what changed.
- Test the AI connection from Settings. One short message — a few tokens, effectively free — tells you straight away whether your key, provider and model work together, instead of leaving you to discover it when a whole batch produces nothing. If it fails it says why: key rejected, model not recognised, rate limited, or the address could not be reached.
- Videos get their locations too. The position your phone recorded is read, looked up and written back into the video. The video itself is not re-encoded — only the location label is added.
- Rescue a missing or broken date from the file itself. Some cameras and transfers leave a photo with no date, or a nonsensical one. Batch MetadataSync can take the date from the file on disk instead.
- The Background Processor can be limited to certain hours, and Batch MetadataSync lets you cap how many processor cores build thumbnails.
Removed
- "Send to → Windows Share" is gone. It never worked. Choosing it asked you to confirm and then did nothing at all, because the way it tried to open Windows' own share panel is not something a program can actually do — that was our mistake, and it should never have been offered in 1.4.7. Sending to Telegram is unaffected. There is currently no way to send photos to WhatsApp from Batch PhotoBrowser; we would rather say so than leave a button that pretends.

- Saving settings in Batch Geolocate no longer wipes settings belonging to the other programs. Pressing Save there quietly removed your Amazon Photos sign-in and album, your Telegram details and the Background Processor's schedule. The dialog said it had saved, and the next time you looked you were signed out with nothing to connect the two.
- Batch Geolocate's AI "Test connection" now tells you when it fails. It worked when the connection worked, but when it did not — a wrong key, an unreachable provider — no message appeared at all, which is precisely when you needed one.
- Nothing would start from the Batch PhotoTools menu. Choosing any tool from the launcher reported that it could not be started.
- The right-click menu's sub-menus were invisible — they showed nothing but a thin sliver when you hovered over them.
- Batch MetadataSync now finds exiftool wherever the rest of the suite finds it, instead of reporting it as missing while every other program used it happily.
- Renaming a place in the POI manager is quick again. Updating the name on photos that already had it could take hours, with a black window flashing on screen for every single photo. It now updates them in batches, silently, in a fraction of the time.
- The duplicate finder could show a photo as a duplicate of itself, clearing duplicates can now be stopped part-way, and each group says more clearly what it is offering.
- Video dates and lengths now show up reliably.

- The AI response length is called "Max tokens" again in Batch PhotoBrowser's Settings, the same name Batch Geolocate and the AI providers themselves use.

- Background Processor. A new tool that quietly gets your photo library ready so everything opens instantly later. Tell it which folders hold your photos and it works through them in the background — reading each photo's details, building thumbnails, finding duplicate copies, and filling in locations — so that by the time you open Batch PhotoBrowser the answers are already there. It is considerate about it: by default it only works while you are away from the computer, never on battery, and it steps aside the instant you touch the mouse or keyboard, so you never feel it running. You can also set it to work lightly all the time, or full speed, and limit it to certain hours. Nothing it does ever changes your photos or gets in the way of the other tools — at worst you simply do not notice it.

- The photo library never shows a "database" error any more. If the file that remembers your photos' details ever gets damaged — by a power cut, a crash, or a cloud-sync hiccup — the app now quietly rebuilds it, keeping every detail it can still read and setting the damaged copy safely aside rather than showing you an error or losing your ratings and captions. The only thing you might notice is that one start takes a little longer than usual.
- Your saved locations are protected. The database of places the app has looked up for you (which can represent weeks of work and can only be rebuilt slowly) is now backed up before any change to it, and if it is ever found damaged the app asks you before doing anything — it will never silently throw it away.

- Long jobs can be paused and stopped, and survive interruption. Batch PhotoFixer now has a Pause button and stops promptly when you ask — even in the middle of repairing a large file — instead of only between files. And across the suite, if a tool is closed or the computer is shut down in the middle of a long job, no more than a moment's work is lost and the job simply picks up where it left off next time.

- One place to start everything. A new Batch PhotoTools entry in the Start menu opens a small window listing all the tools, each with a line describing what it does — click one to open it. Handy when you know the job you want to do but not which tool does it. - "Sync IPTC and XMP" in the right-click menu now works. Right-clicking a folder and picking this from the Batch PhotoTools menu used to show an error instead of doing anything. It now opens Batch MetadataSync with the folder already filled in.
- Edits are no longer lost when two tools work on the same photo. If a photo was written to by two of the tools at the same moment — for example while a batch run was going and you edited a caption in the browser — one of the two changes could quietly fail to save. The tools now wait their turn on a photo, so both changes are kept.

- Duplicate finder. Batch PhotoBrowser now quietly looks for identical copies of your photos in the background, so Tools → Duplicates opens with the answer already worked out. Tell it which folders are your organised library ("trusted") and which are dumping grounds like a cloud folder or an old backup ("unsorted"), and it groups every duplicate by where its copies live. You can clear out a whole category at once whenever at least one copy stays safe in a trusted folder, or open the list and tick exactly the copies you want gone. Every set shows the full path of each copy and, side by side, the rating, caption, keywords and location stored in each one — so a copy you spent time captioning is never thrown away by accident. Sets where the neglected-looking copy is actually the curated one are held back from bulk deletes and flagged for you to decide. At least one copy of each photo is always kept, and everything goes to the Recycle Bin. Merge metadata is on by default: before anything is deleted, any rating, caption, keyword, location or private marking that only the copies you are removing carry is written onto the copy you keep — so tidying up duplicates can never cost you work you have already done. Deleting shows a progress bar while it runs.
- Background geocoding. Batch PhotoBrowser quietly fills in country, city, subregion and offline-database POIs for photos that have GPS but no location tags yet. It runs only when you are away from the computer — never on battery unless allowed, never during a game or presentation, at the lowest CPU and disk priority — and stops the moment you touch the mouse or keyboard. Control it from View → Background tasks, which also shows how many photos are waiting, how many have been tagged, whether it is working right now or waiting for you to step away, and how far the duplicate check has got.
- AI Analyze painter. A new toolbar tool in Batch PhotoBrowser: pick photos and either analyze them with the vision AI right there, or queue them to the analysis list for Batch Geolocate. Photos that already have AI results show a small green AI badge while the tool is active and are skipped by default, so you never pay twice.
- Metro layout. A fourth gallery layout: an edge-to-edge photo wall with no gaps anywhere. Tiles come in mixed sizes — most photos as small squares, with larger 2×2 and 3×3 tiles woven in so the wall stays lively. Your 4- and 5-star photos always get a big tile, panoramas get wide tiles and portrait shots tall ones. The wall is worked out from your photos rather than thrown together at random, so the same pictures stay the prominent ones each time you open it — though tiles do resize as the layout repacks to fit the window.
- AI model presets. A ready-made model list — Moonshot Kimi K2.5 (default), OpenRouter, OpenAI GPT-4o, Anthropic Claude Haiku 4.5, NVIDIA NIM — plus Custom for any OpenAI-compatible endpoint.
- Right-click menu in the image viewer. Copy the file path, folder path or file name; show the image in Explorer; open it in your default photo app; rotate it left or right (also Ctrl+← / Ctrl+→); or move it to the Recycle Bin (also Del). Rotating JPEG, TIFF and HEIC photos does not re-encode them, so it never costs quality.
- Analysis list. Pick individual photos from any number of folders and hand exactly those to Batch Geolocate, instead of pointing it at a whole folder.
- New app icons for the whole suite.

- Geocoding a single photo now works. Right-clicking one photo to geocode it, and the "Get location" button in the viewer, did nothing at all — no location was written and no error was shown. Both now work and report a clear message if something goes wrong.
- The Corrupt Image Manager no longer freezes when it hits a problem photo. If listing, previewing, analysing or removing a damaged photo ran into trouble, the window could stop responding or come up empty instead of skipping that photo and carrying on.
- Photos rotated a quarter turn are laid out correctly in the gallery. Photos whose rotation was recorded as 270° were shown with their width and height swapped, giving them the wrong shape in the grid.

- Batch PhotoBrowser started slowly and ignored clicks for up to several minutes. Right after launch, the app silently burned a full CPU core and up to ~2 GB of memory for 30 seconds to several minutes. During that time the Browse button did nothing, and folders passed from the Explorer context menu or from Batch Geolocate's "Show Photos" could fail to open. The cause was the UI framework endlessly exploring an infinite chain of Windows UI properties at startup. Now the app starts instantly and Browse responds immediately.
